Preparing New York State’s students to have the skills to attend college and/or enter the work force is a top priority for The Business Council of Westchester. In 2014, The Business Council will continue to support;
- Helping to ensure that our K-12th grade students are fully prepared to enter college and careers in the global economy by supporting the implementation of the Common Core academic standards in our public schools.
The Business Council supports the passage of the Education Investment Tax Credit Legislation which would provide a dollarfor-dollar credit against New York personal income, corporate franchise, bank and insurance taxes for donations to education-related entities (for a maximum of 75% of tax liability). The purpose of the bill is to increase charitable donations from individuals and businesses to individual public schools, school districts, and not-profit community based organizations that operate prekindergarten programs, provide visual arts, music, tutoring, college or career readiness or other instructions during or after school.
Reduce state mandates on school districts, to allow them to better function under the 2% real property tax cap.
